Relationships can be loving and rewarding.
They also can be difficult and frustrating.
Poor communication (or lack of communication) can lead to difficulties. Frustration, anger, or resentment toward the other partner can set in.
Other hot buttons causing couples to disagree are these examples:
- Financial struggles
- Work stress
- Disagreement on parenting styles
- Substance abuse
- Domestic violence
- Not enough “couple time”
Any of these examples from poor communication to domestic violence can lead to an unhappy/unhealthy relationship. However, it does not mean that all is lost.
Therapy can help.
Sometimes, it is better to talk to someone that is not emotionally involved to help the couple gain insight into what may be causing the problems within the relationship.
Therapy is a “team effort.” It will only be successful if everyone is involved. While individual therapy can help one partner, to resolve underlying issues within a couple, it serves better if both partners are participating in understanding the problem(s) and developing the resolution(s).
Don’t lose hope. Where ‘there’s a will, there’s a way.’
